Does anyone want to take over organizing the SGUS Newspaper?

Atlantis4Life
Hey Everybody,

I've got a lot on my plate right now, so I'm going to have to take some things off of my plate.  Outside of performing some very basic Admin duties, I'm going to have to let all of the additional stuff go.

The biggest additional task I used to perform for the site right now (among other things) is being the organizer (and contributor) of the paper.  I don't know if anyone still wants the paper or not, but if you all do then someone will need to organize it.

It's basically being on the look-out for interesting facts, interviews, happenings, and rumors and then seeing who's willing to do articles on them and then following up on that.  I did the ticker tape section of the paper, so whoever my replacement is (if anyone) might want to continue to do that too.  It's really a section for interesting tidbits of information, but it's completely optional.

The paper was meant to be bi-weekly, but again, that can change depending on what the new organizer decides.

It might also be good for people to chime in and say if they even want a paper anymore.  IDK, it might be a good idea to just end it.

cheers,

A4L

Same thing here.

I don't mind helping out every now and again, but I'm not going to be able to run the whole thing anymore.  Like you, I won't have the time.

Well, unless someone wants to take over that job, we might not have to contribute if there isn't going to be a paper anymore.  Still, we can post what we find in threads.

Cheers.

I guess I can organize it somewhat, I'm the newspaper gal for another forums, so whats another right? Though I'm not the best writer, excellent for my age, but not compared to um...older people. I guess I can make..I mean, ask other members to write some articles and such.

That would be great.  It doesn't matter that you're still a teen.  I'm sure you'll do fine.

My schedule is too erratic to commit to being primary for the position, but I’ll help you wherever I can.  Plus, I think you’ll do a fine job.  It’s very heartening to see that someone without a whole lot of years behind them is as ambitious and creatively inclined as you are.

Again, I’ll help as much as I can so feel free to ask.

Regards,

Dave

thanks.

Do you think I can make it a monthly thing? It would flow more smoothly with my other newspaper. And do you have any 'instructions' on how to post the paper?

Thats where I come in! What A4L did was organize everything, send it to me and I post it on the website and email it out.

p.s. Monthly is fine!, I can send it out with the newsletter that way.

Cool, well I do the best I can with it. If anyone says, it looks like it was written by a 16 year old, I'll say thank you because I'm 14. lol

If you're going to be posting it on the website will you have page jumps* for each article in the newspaper?

That way people will be able to link to specific sections of the newspaper when quoting or mentioning it.

I think the priority is going to be rebuilding the registration base after the crash. The paper may be a way of contacting people to re-register. Gee this place had >14,000 posts at one time. I sure hope Overmind had a DVD with it all on DVD hidden in his sock drawer.

Me too. There were some awesome captioned pictures in that thread, it would be a shame to lose them and I do not have a copy of all the ones I made.

I wouldn't mind writing an article, i'm no pro journalist but i'd sure as hell give it my all :D I did some journalism back in highschool so it'd be better than Hinman (though that's not all that hard.)

LOL.

Whatever you can do will be great!

Michelluva is the new organizer, so you'll send whatever you've got to her.  I'll set up a private forum where people that want to work on the paper can do that without everyone seeing it before the finished product.

We need to get started on that again!!! There's been a lot to cover lately, and the show isn't even on the air right now!

Cheers.

Re: Does anyone want to take over organizing the SGUS Newspaper?

I wrote up a little thing that i think would be good for before you put the forums back up. Whaddya think?  feel free to copy edit :)

-------------

Stargate Universe: A show so bad, the drama it creates between lovers and haters is more entertaining!

As a card carrying member of SGU*S, I was quite shocked a few weeks ago when for no apparent reason, the forums went down. I saw a post on the main page about server updates, but nothing nearly as extreme or spleen twistingly hilarious as what actually happened which I’ll get into below.

No, I – Aragon101 = just went about my life without SGU*S. I went to school, wrote on my fanfiction series, went out with friends, even started studying for my A+ Certificate which has been going great. SGU*S was in the back of my mind because quite frankly, SGU doesn’t take up even a fraction of my whole day.

As an aside, I guess Joe Mallozzi’s comment about us doesn’t exactly hold water when you get right down to it huh? Amazing that a producer sees us enough of a threat to actually comment and rebuke us :P You’d have thought he’d have learned from Brad Wright’s epic fail with Maureen Ryan and the Chicago Tribune. The Tribune is a huge newspaper and Maureen Ryan is an acclaimed critic. I guess Mallozzi thinks he can get away with it if he punches below the Tribune’s weight. Looks like he was wrong and simply looks butthurt someone doesn’t like his ‘pet’.

Getting into the topic at hand, a few weeks after the initial forum going down, I was messaged by Rac80 to come to a ‘new’ forum that had been set up in the interim. I checked it out, but only found bots there hocking Viagra and other claptrap I as a virile 23 year old male (Doesn’t that mean SGU is supposed to be JUST for me?). Needless to say, I didn’t register. Why? Simply because I was too busy with my regular life to start posting on a forum with so few people on it. I checked back the next week and WHAM, a ton of new posters. I still didn’t register as I didn’t have much time, but I checked out the “Announcements” and saw that Overmind One, who owned the servers that hosted SGU*S had been robbed.

I know enough about computers to know that it’s a huge headache when something like that happens and so when – evidently – Overmind had decided not to return to SGU*S and had sent the Admins an email detailing why, I didn’t make a huge issue out of it. Some of the others thought that he’d suffered a mid-life crisis given his demeanor. Some were sad but accepting, others were pissed at the ‘betrayal. I admit that even I thought it was confusing I could see the logic behind the madness.

But there was one thing I didn’t understand. I’ve spoken to Overmind on the forums a lot and I never saw a person who would have that sort of issue. We spoke long about depression and foods and working out and how IQ isn’t a gauge for a person’s intellect…All things that had nothing to do with SGU and it’s glorious two scoops of predigested crap. I didn’t see a man who would be affected so strongly by what amounted to theft of material his insurance would cover. I remained in my lurker status, and soon after I reregistered at the new forum.

I had made a few posts and started to figure out how it worked, I checked a few specific threads out when I made a shocking discovery – which apparently everyone else had already made given my tardiness.

OVERMIND DID NOT SEND THE EMAIL SAYING HE WASN’T COMING BACK. SOMEONE IMPERSONATED HIM!

My sphincter clenched in shock, my scrotum contracted in awe, and my spleen began to fear for imminent injury. There were lulz around the corner and I quickly put away my drink - Snorting ice-cold diet cola through your nose is not a pleasant thing to experience.

As I delved into the threads and posts, the barest edge of what turned out to be some kind of tapestry, likely built on lies and conspiracy began to unfold. Someone had impersonated Overmind, and the only reason it was found out is that Atlantis4Life was enough of a friend to Overmind to want to talk to him personally through private, personal email. These two were friends that cared enough to see how the other was doing, that cannot be overstated. Overmind’s reaction was likely the same as the designer of the Maginot Line in 1940 – At least that’s how I envision it. One thing had led to another, and suddenly friends become enemies, lies are called out, and there’s an explosion of sides taken and accusations.

The shitstorm had commenced, a multi-blog war had begun and the threat of civil war loomed. Some said Overmind was crazy right from the start, others defended him gallantly to the death –even though no one died – and refused to believe those who ragged on Overmind. Chaos reigned, and the shrapnel and debris from the thermonuclear shitbomb that had detonated still hasn’t landed yet. My internet avatar is still cowering inside the fridge out of fear of the nuclear event!

One would think it’s just like SGU what with the screaming and arguing and accusations, but the key difference is that SGU threw all the hate and distrust and arguing and screaming without letting us naturally get to know the characters. Instead, they decided to ram the character’s backstories deep into the dark recesses of the colon of the audience and paid no heed to the fact that the large intestine doesn’t exactly do a good job of digesting things.

No, what happened with SGU*S happened with people we’d gotten to know, the explosion of distrust means a lot more because these were people we trusted and knew. It wasn’t a bickering fight right from the start, it turned into one because of a few butthurt people who can’t stand not getting their way. If it were TV it would have been the huge fight that comes after a season worth of getting to know people on a personal level without bickering with them. It was the critical mass event that is built up after a long time of. It's damned good entertainment!

I wasn’t there, I can’t say for a fact what happened or in detail, But hot damn as I read through the posts, my gut surely began to rumble. SGU*S had literally created a situation so intensely butthurting for certain elements that they seek to destroy both from without and within the group! It’s hilariously insane! I was laughing out loud and struggling to breath it’s so ridiculous.

What show in the history of Television has divided people to such extremes as to do something like this? SGU is more than just horrible TV, it’s literally destructive to the well-being of people who want their criticisms to be heard!

To clarify, I don’t think TPTB had anything to do with what’s happened – though it wouldn’t surprise me. I simple arrived well after the shit had hit the fan and am forced to laugh at just how SGU leaves behind it a swath of destruction and ignorance as well as complete and utter epic fail.

I STILL don’t know exactly what has happened or all the details. I could likely figure it all out by following posts and emails and screenshots of what’s happened, but I’d rather wait until I see what happens play out. Well… that and I just don’t have that amount of time and Overmind and Atlantis4Life have promised a full explanation of what’s happened. They’ve promised this full explanation once the new, yet ironically the same old forum come back online. I await that day with pitched fervor.

Okay, I just read this.  LOL.  Some of it's right on the money, and there are some things/details that are off.  Seeing as you weren't here, that makes sense, though.  Overall, it was written nicely and I got a few laughs out of it.

I'm not much for theatrics, so even when people throw fits in long missives or what have you, or post a bunch stuff they don't know about on their blogs, etc., the most I can do is to respond with the truth - screen shots and all.  I've never been interested in unnecessary drama.

I can't speak for Overmind, but I've pretty much outlined (on other threads here) that Victor was lying about me and about his interactions with me.  When the new forum is up, I'll repost what I've written here along with a brief overview in The Trenches, and I'll answer questions there if you have them for a day or so.  After that, I'll be looking to put this behind me...

Cheers.

Thanks, it think it would pretty interesting if we had something on the general reaction and and an article on what happened behind the scenes.
