I started to chuckle when I saw this post. There was a German Synth pop band by the name of Alphaville in the '80s. They produced some great hits such as "Forever young" and "Big in Japan". So when I saw your post, I couldn't help but laugh, thinking about Mallozzi;

Aah when you're big in Japan-tonight...
Big in Japan-be-tight...
Big in Japan... ooh the eastern sea's so blue
Big in Japan-alright,
Pay! -- Then I'll sleep by your side
Things are easy when you're big in Japan
Oh when you're big in Japan

This is the Chorus of the song. Brother Kobe might recognize the song, but some of the youngsters might not.

But I Digress. Point being, The egotistical maniac probably thinks he's a mega celebrity (Probably not averse to saying.. " You know the TV show Stargate? I did that..."), and chicks are lining up to be asked on dates etc., etc.,. but then, I might be a tad salty, because when I was interning at Hitachi Plant, Tokyo in the mid 80's, no chicks ever fell over themselves to go out with me, and I WAS a legend in my own mind

OK, I said in another post that I was going to stop criticizing Mallozzi, but... this has to do with Stargate, with his attitude to his job.

Mmm.  Kind of.  Wanting to live in Japan and whining about not being there on vacation forever is an aspect of his personal life.  But it doesn’t matter because I agree with you.  He has blurred the line between his personal and professional life to the point where it’s inevitable that we occasionally end up commenting on the opposite side of the line we want to be on.  I didn’t mention his personal life - that is - not until today.  His manipulative ploys for sympathy (post your well-wishes to my mother on the blog that she doesn’t read and won’t read because she doesn’t have a computer or use a cell phone that might have internet.  His sister just confirmed this today, along with information that contradicts what Mr. Mallozzi said happened to his mother...) make it seem like all of the well-wishes are really for his benefit, not his mother‘s.  And that just got to be too much for me.

I believe his mother really fell and hurt herself (it’s her thigh now, not her hip...), but like I said, I got annoyed with “when” he decided to release this information to his blog readers.  Some of his blog readers were annoyed too.  And so, like the blog reader that finally posted questions about his marriage, I finally posted some comments on his behavior in playing the sympathy card.  And the sympathy fountain is flowing profusely over there, just like “mastermind Mallozzi” intended.

Never you mind, though.  Today is the first and last day I plan to comment on his personal life.  I really don’t care about his personal life either.  And, I’m starting to wonder if it’s worth it to check on his blog to see if by chance he might just have some SGA news - or even one of his fans for that matter.  Sometimes they seem to be aware of things before he is, or they ask good questions about rumors that can be confirmed or denied.  But, I’m tired.  His BS tactics are too much for me.  And like I said before, he only appears to think one step ahead, so he’s not capable of painting the picture of his life that I think he tries to.  If he were, he’d be a better writer - and he’d have some guidelines that he is adhering to.  Oh well, no skin off my back.  However, reading the blog - so you don’t have to - is going to be something I put on hold for a while.  I need a break from all of the bad food and the BS.

@US06154

I can just imagine him singing that “Big in Japan” song to himself in the mirror while putting on one of his “Miami Vice at Night” suits before going out for a swinging time.

Re: Mallozzi Updates & More

Atlantis4Life
Oh classicgatefan, I know you didn’t mean any offense by your statements.  And, I didn’t mean any offense to be taken from mine.  When I said “so you don’t have to”, I didn’t mean you specifically.  I meant “you” as in anyone that reads the updates.  And there’s no need to be grateful.  I’m not Mr. Mallozzi.  I don’t require gratitude the way he does.  But, thank you for your kind words.

I don’t comment on his blog because there is no point in it.  I’ve seen the way he treats people that try to make legitimate complaints against him/SGU, and there’s no need to try.  I’m not in the mood for wasting my time to submit a comment that either won’t get approved, or will get edited, or whatever else Mr. Mallozzi has in mind.  He’s not interested in listening to anything aside from his own selfish will and desires.  He only wants to see positive and adoring comments.  He essentially ordered his blog readers to post well-wishes on his blog the other day (which was unnecessary as anyone who reads that an elderly lady fell down and broke a bone is going to post a sympathetic comment).  He’s too much of a manipulator for me.  And I’m not interested in being told what to say by him, or in allowing him, by giving him the opportunity, to attempt to bully me or slice apart my comments, only to post what he wants others to see.  I wouldn’t mind him commenting here, though.  I doubt he will.  There’s no approval queue here for him hide behind, and no minions to fight for him.  And I’m not the one coming up with the “minion” term here, one of his faithful blog regulars used it to refer to that group first.

I don’t mind famous people or their relatives getting sympathy.  What I mind is the game that he plays.  Mr. Mallozzi is a Grade-A Bullshitter.  He doesn’t seem to care if anyone knows either.  I say this because - he has to know that - anyone with a first-grader’s detective skills can see right through the smoke and mirrors he puts up.  His everyday blog readers either (a) understand exactly what he’s about and they don’t care, or (b) they are really going along with everything he says, just the way he says it, because they’re that gullible.  I can tell that at least a few aren’t gullible, but I‘d rather that, and hope that, they all aren‘t.

This brings me to SGU:

I see a correlation between how Mr. Mallozzi handles his blog and how TPTB have handled SGU, and Mr. Mallozzi is a part of that machine that we call TPTB.  He writes about his personal life (not that I care to read about it) in such a patchy and sometimes dubious way to where a number of readers are likely to wonder why the patchy holes are there, and what those holes represent.  When SGU premiered, one of the major complaints was that the logic was off, in on way or another.  People wanted to know why.  The term “plot-holes” was thrown around more than a hot potato.

I feel that if Mr. Mallozzi can’t write his own story well, then how can he write anyone else’s, even if that person is a fictional character?  That’s what it really boils down to.  His blog is his story.  It’s his story about whatever aspects of his life he chooses to divulge.  And he isn’t clear and consistent in that.  So, it’s no surprise that SGU is the hog-wash mess that it is.  Look at the writers.  That’s all I’m saying.  However, it’s clear that Mr. Mallozzi doesn’t see it that way.  None of them do.  His blog is the pedestal he uses daily to elevate himself and his agenda, even if the blog-post appears to be about someone else.  And TPTB are using SGU to elevate themselves and their agenda - fans be damned.

These are the main reasons why I’m giving his blog a rest for a while.  It’s not you.  So, please don’t think that.  I need to spend  more time on things that are positive, and that I enjoy.  There’s only so much time in the day, and I don’t want to waste any of mine reading or typing about his blog for a nice little spell.   I wish you the best in enjoying your time as well.

@Kobe SBM

Thanks bro.  They are lying.  And to top it off, they’re bad liars.  Their “damage control force” isn’t cutting it, and they know it.  But, what other options have they got left?  They can’t just say “Yes everybody, SGU sucks.  It’s terrible.  So, there’s no need for you to tune in and watch or buy the DVDs...Thanks”  That’s not going to happen.  So you, I, and the rest of the gang (which are the majority of the Stargate fan-base) are stuck with shooting down their crazy spin, lies, and the like.  Cheers comrade!!

This Deserves An Update

Okay.  It's been a couple of weeks since the last update.  Today, I figured that since they're auctioning off SG-1/SGA stuff left and right that I might catch some SGA news on the blog.   And - Guess What!!!  Of course not!

But, I did find something else.

The other day, Mr.  Mallozzi took to asking fans these 5 questions about SGU:

"So, as we prep for the show’s second season – and keeping in mind you haven’t seen the more action-oriented back half of season one – I’d like to know:
1. Which character would you like to see explored more?
2. What aspect of the show would you like to see exploited more?
3. What aspect of the show would prefer to see minimized?
4. What was your favorite “story moment” from the first half of SGU’s first season?
5. What element (I’m leaving this one wide open) would you like to see added to the series as a whole?"

He received about 170 responses to these queries.  Unsurprisingly, 2 of the characters that  people were interested in exploring the most were TJ and Greer.  They are the least annoying of the main characters.  Rush got a lot of votes as well, but he's annoying (to me).  Getting back to TJ and Greer, I think that they may do a better job in including TJ in the show than they did for Beckett in SGA (but she won't be a better character than Beckett - Never).  They gave Beckett some great involvment in a nice handful of episodes before they decided to annihilate him, but more would have been nice.  She's blonde, so she has a little of that Carter appeal going for her.  Perhaps that will inspire them - but not too much, though.  That wouldn't be good.  These people tend to get stuck on 1-2 characters, which is what hurt Atlantis.  And Greer, well, for people hoping that they do his character any justice - Good luck with that one!  Ha!  I'll believe it when I hear about it from reliable sources, then I might consider seeing it.  These writers have already proven that they are limited in their ability to write for characters like Greer.  If he doesn't end up being the strong, silent figure, standing off to the side, then he'll be the mostly silent wallpaper that can wield a mean banto stick.  Then, there's always the possibility of him getting addicted to some alien substance (during season 2 of course) and skipping off because he's gone crazy/rogue.  They did slightly better for Ronon.  At least we knew why he was angry.  And they quite possibly only did better for Lorne because he wasn't a main actor on the show.  That gave them less chances to screw up.  At least they haven't done to Greer what they've done with Scott and Chole.  That, I give them credit for.  Then again, there are 10 more episodes to go for the rest of season one...  As for the rest of it - Mmm, whatever.

And, why couldn't they ask these questions moving into a 6th season of Atlantis?  That was the show that deserved another season.  Oh, that's right!  They killed Atlantis for SGU when they didn't have to.   And, here's the big one - they weren't desperate, that's why.  And, now they have something to prove.  They just lazily coasted along with Atlantis.  But SGU is such a failure, they're now scrambling to show that they do in fact still have "the touch".  I'm sure that Mr. Mallozzi didn't just decide to ask these five questions off of the top of his head, all by himself.  As I scrolled through the comments, I noticed a number of posters mentioning how they wanted things from Atlantis injected into the SGU:

"let’s just say the stone smash or something. maybe it’ll be great. i mean, do you show everytime Atlantis contact the SGC for report? i dont think so, cuz it’s kinda boring."

"but something more lighthearted that explores friendships and such (the moment with McKay and Sheppard playing with toy cars come to mind)."

"I know others may say this, but like Atlantis, I for one hope that Destiny allows us to explore and find out more, and indeed throw us a few curve balls every so often... Can we (gently) re-introduce the humour as seen in SG1 and SGA?"

"I loved Stargate Atlantis so I would to more stories on advanced technology."

"What if someone on Earth with a high CIA (chair interface aptitude) like Sheppard or Beckett use the stones to take over the body of someone on Destiny with the ATA gene? If the movie is on hold, this gives fans the chance to reconnect with old characters and also explore new areas of the ship...Getting back to SGA..."

"What someone else above said – don’t underestimate the power of the Bacon guys. Two extras in SGA get gunned down and the fandom hive mind remembers it – it had an impact."

"i really liked how by the end of atlantis there were this few episodes were there were this interesting female characters, like in “The Prodigal”, or in “Search and Rescue”"

"but hopefully the latter half and the furthers will inject more of the hilarious antics we learned to know and love from SG-1 and SGA."

"You need a new, likeable character to partner with Eli and exchange snark like Sheppard and McKay."

It keeps going.

And, here are a couple of the lamentations that echo some of my own:

"was always sad more of Atlantis itself wasn’t explored."

"We never really had a great opportunity to explore Atlantis, which was a shame, beautiful city that it was."

And on the SGA movie front, there were some queries like this one:

"I suppose you know MGM put in auctions some probs from Sg1 and Atlantis. This give me some worries about the SGA movie. Is this means there will not be the movie promised after the cancellation…..?... I hope too Your relation between you and SGA cast is going better especially with Joe F."

I guess what I'm trying to say is that PEOPLE STILL MISS ATLANTIS.  If they were to make all of the changes that I saw people asking them to make, then we would essentially have SGA2.  To me at least, it seemed like the majority of the people were essentially asking TPTB to give them Atlantis on a ship since we can't have the REAL Atlantis back.  For me though, nothing but the real thing will do.  Of course there are the ones that like SGU as it is, but again, they're not the majority.  And, if that's going to be the case (them changing SGU into SGA2), then why in the hell did they kill the show that had the characters that I cared about in the first place?   I'm just being rhetorical here.  Oh, and it gets better!

Mr. Mallozzi's last blog-post states:

"Also, thanks to those who have been weighing in with their thoughts on Stargate: Universe – their likes, dislikes, and hopes for the future. As I stated in yesterday’s entry, you have the entire back half of season one to look forward to come April and I can assure you that many of your requests will be magically honored when the show returns... So plenty of character development headed your way, most of which will hopefully satisfy your numerous requests (while simultaneously stirring further interest in our extended shipboard family). And if what’s ahead in the back half of season one doesn’t clear your entire wish list, well, there’s season two to look forward to as well."

It's always nice when you can use asking for "suggestions" as a marketing tool for the second half of a dying show.  Everyone's hopes and dreams for SGU will "magically" come to fruition during the last ten episodes of season one.  Just keep watching, and you'll see.  Right.  Well, Mr. Mallozzi, you get an E for effort.

I'm still not sure as to whether or not a second season will happen.  My "hopes" for SGU are that it doesn't come back for a season 2, and that SGU gets killed for/replaced by (at the very least)  an SGA movie.

Come on, you can do it PTB for SGA!  JJ Abrams and Co. don't have to beat you every single time!  Make the SGA movie!  Prove that you can make it great!  Do what it takes to give Atlantis some semblance of a proper ending!  You could at least try.

Oh, I almost forgot to include this.  Here's what Mr. Mallozzi had to say about new writers being added to the show:

"As to your question – Which is better, established writers or new blood? – I would answer: Can’t we have both? On the one hand, established writers know the show and its characters better than anyone and they’ve developed a strong working relationship with the cast and crew; on the other hand, new writers could inject some new ideas and approaches to the stories and characters. Why not the best of both worlds?"

Yes, why not?  Especially when they clearly need the help, it would be good to give some new writers a chance at the helm.  Again, it's too bad that SGU gets to benefit from all of the care and concern that SGA never had.  And why didn't they care for the show that actually got 4.2 million viewers live?  Why would the response to getting a People's Choice award be to cancel the beloved show that got it?  Why couldn't SGA and SGU have run simultaneously?  TPTB could have had the best of both worlds in producing what most fans actually wanted (a better-than-ever SGA season 6) in addition to coddling their new baby along.

Why not the best of both worlds, Mr. Mallozzi?  Why not?

Well, that's it for now.

Bye, Bye

Re: Mallozzi Updates & More

Atlantis4Life
From what little I remembered I didn't like Greer much...

I don't like him either, but I don't like any of the characters.  I just think that he and TJ are the least annoying of the (main) characters on the show.

I totally agree with every word! ( That's why I quoted all of it... ;-) Desperation coupled with a publicity trick, they want to appear like they're listening to the fans. Whether or not they actually will listen, and whether or not listening will help them improve the series, I don't know. But in spite of all the spinning of numbers and patting themselves on the back, they must see where things are going. Or somebody will make them see.

Yep.  That's the question.  I also think that's why they're looking into bringing in new writing blood.  Someone has made them acknowledge that there are problems, even if they can't see the problems for themselves.  My improvement would be to bring back Atlantis.

Oh, I think there's going to be a second season. It's already been renewed and budgeted, and will probably start shooting... during the spring..?

I knew that Syfy had renewed the series for a second season.  But, I didn't know that MGM had renewed it and given them the money.  Got any links?  Although, I'm sure they have some kind of contract deal with MGM for a season 2.  Then again, studios are usually smart enough to write in some kind of exit clause that will save them if things go south.  I don't know.  I wonder how much money they got for the second season.  It can't be as much as they got for season one considering how bad SGU has been, and MGM's precarious financial situation.

Kill Keller, bring Jewel back as Elia's sister, let Carson have his position and importance back, make Teyla and Ronon into main characters again, have Teyla realize that she never really loved Kanaan, and get together with John ( written by writers who can write a believeable romantic relationship without making either of the characters weak, and listen to the actors ).

I agree with every word, so that's why I quoted all of this:-)  Jewel really could come back as some kind of Wraith queen or head care-taker for the Wraith.  I think Elia was just a baby when she ended up on that planet with humans in season 2.  So, the separated from early childhood part would already be established.  They could deal with her from time to time in some new and interesting ways.  Of course, I agree about Teyla and John (and it being written by good writers that are very familiar with the show), and about Teyla and Ronon needing to be written for like they are the main characters that they are.  And Beckett!  Yes, bring him back for REAL.  I do not want to see him relegated off to some village in Pegasus, or staying behind on Earth when Atlantis goes back to its home galaxy.

OK... got a little carried away, there..!

You did a great job writing about the changes that would have needed to be made with a 6th season of Atlantis.  Too bad they’re not going to do it.  When I think about how SGU gets all of the things that Atlantis deserved but never (fully) received from TPTB (bigger budget, better promotion/advertising, catering to and even soliciting fan input, unwavering respect and devotion, etc.), I sometimes get a little carried away in my writing too.

OMG!!!  He didn't edit it!!!   I guess he knew that the cat was already out of the bag.  I have to collect myself.  That poster said everything that I would say over there.  And, they said a lot of what I've said here.  Wow.

I personally wondered if all of these "questions" were merely a way to market the next season, and the rest of this season especially.  I think that might be what they're up to, another game of "keep watching..." for the gullible.

I read your post there too, Kobe.  You're better than I am.  I want SGU to fail, not because the show can't get better (and they'd have to change the whole show for it to get better - the whole show) but because of how they've acted towards the fans over this show.  They've lied, placated, insulted, ignored, etc., the fans and the casts of the other 2 shows.  I don't want SGU to be successful because it would be a reward for such poor behavior on TPTB's part.

Thanks for posting this, Kobe.  That guy (or gal) really punched them in the face (  ) with some reality, and real questions (that Mr. Mallozzi will no doubt either taunt or ignore - those are his specialties).

I sometimes think that they hate SGA fans because we have the audacity (most of us) to be able to think for ourselves, and ask for quality entertainment.  They can't stand that we are loyal to our show.  Well, that's what happens when you create a great show with a great cast/characters.  People get attached.  They make me want to make sure that that doesn't happen again though.  I only want to experience one Atlantis-type disappointment.

Actually, I'm very much in the dark as to how TV-series are produced and who makes the decisions and who pays, so it's just an impression I've gotten. Somebody made a press release that SGU was renewed for a second season, and this I assumed meant both that SyFy was willing and able to show it and MGM to produce it...
I can totally see a season 2 happening too.  It was Syfy the renewed SGU for a second season in their press release.  I just question whether or not it will really happen because both SGA and SG-1 got renewals from Syfy for a 6th and 11th season, and then it didn't happen.  MGM pulled the plug on SG-1, but approved the movies.  No one wants to take the credit for SGA since they know it was a mistake.  From what I've read, I believe that Brad and Rob got all exicted about their new baby and decided that they didn't need SGA to anchor the old fans to the franchise.  Hindsight is 20/20, although they'll never admit that about SGA.

So let me get this straight. They Started out by Ditching Atlantis to do something Totally Different to Atlantis/SG1. Now that it looks like shit has hit the fan, they want to make it "more like Atlantis/SG1" ? All those "Teasers" from Jo-Jo the dog faced boy's blog, is nothing but "I'm a begging you, on my bended knees, please watch our show, because it'll defrost your fridge, clean your car, give you a boner and walk your dog, and all of that within the first 5 minutes of Episode 11"

It almost sounds like Election Promises. Just like politicians kissing babies, he's already started kissing Asses (Complimenting your fashion sense, your academic achievements and your spouses leftover meatloaf from last night's dinner). Bah, Humbug.

Who wants to watch a show where everyone bickers and yells and does not get along? This is not realism, at least not for most of us... I love Stargate! Stargate Universe can be great, but you should listen to the fans which you have rejected. We will forgive you.
The only show that I can think of that people wanted to watch where everyone bickered and literally fought  ALL of the time was JERRY SPRINGER.  And we all know what kind of show that turned into.  Call me picky, but I also wouldn’t really want to know any of its regular viewers.

Do they really want to turn Stargate into BattleStargate: Jerry Springer?  How can you go from Atlantis to this?  It’s a shame. SGU hasn’t reached the deep-end of Jerry territory yet, but from all of the love triangles and cat-fights/dog-fights over ex-boyfriends and wives - it’s getting darn close.  Darn close indeed!  Here are the love triangles I can think of off of the top of my head.

Scott - Chloe - Eli
Chloe - Scott - James
Chloe - Her Ex - Chloe's (ex?)friend
TJ - Young - Young’s wife
Young - Young’s wife - and Telford

And, they still can’t figure out why people say this show is a soap opera.   I bet The Young & The Restless can't beat SGU's love triangles.  I haven’t even mentioned the lesbian love stuff at all.  I don't have to.  It’s not even drama, now that I think of it.  Any decent drama writer absolutely wouldn’t do this because it’s just too much drama.  It makes a mockery of deep-dramatic situations because of how poorly it's done.  This is why I think people use soap opera (because it’s so over the top) to describe productions that are feebly attempting to be drama, but aren’t.

And, this season isn’t going to get any better.  Not a chance.  Mr. Mallozzi said it himself:

“In order to head off any potential frustration on the part of those who are unhappy with SGU’s direction, allow me to make a few points that may save you time and effort in any attempt to change some of the creative choices we’ve made.
SGU is NOT SG-1 or Atlantis. It’s a different show in terms of tone and characters. If you’re expecting flawless people, square-jawed heroes, and stories that set up and deliver all the answers over the course of a forty-five minute episode, you WILL be disappointed. And DON’T expect that to change. If you don’t like the character interactions, romance, and open-ended story elements introduced to date, you’re in for a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong haul because that’s our show.
Unlike the more kid-friendly SG-1 and Atlantis with its wholesale slaughters of enemy combatants, tortures, stabbings, and occasional live burnings, Universe will touch on the heinous topic of physically intimacy. These “sex scenes”, which amounted to approximately 1 whole minute of the 270 minutes aired to date, engendered a fair amount of controversy. And that’s fine. I don’t mind continuing to read and approve your comments on the subject so long as you don’t mind knowing that nothing will change in this respect and that if you were offended by that broom closet scene in Air I, I guarantee you’ll be clawing your eyes out of your skull given what we have in store later this season. “

Exactly.

Now, he really wants us to BELIEVE that the rest of season one will “magically” be everything we’ve ever dreamed and hoped Stargate could be???  Give me a freaking break, pal!!!  I don’t think so.

Great suggestions, Kobe.  You’re still better than I am.  I can’t forgive them until they at least try to do right by Atlantis.  They could work out something with Jason’s schedule to have him play a bit part in the movie (I know, they probably never intended to make it - I‘m just making a point here).  They did that with Cyclops in X-Men 3 because James Marsden was working on Superman at the time, and filming that movie.  It could work.

I’m tempted to post over there, but I don’t think he’d approve anything I’d write, and leave it unedited.  I’ve already said too much against him to put myself in his palm.  And, I think he or someone close to him at work reads our forums everyday.
                                                      Bring Atlantis Back!!!
